6-Week Landscape Painting Course

This course takes you through the basics of painting the natural landscape in the comfort of a studio. Each morning, we will cover technical aspects of how to construct a landscape painting, as well as techniques for painting clouds, rain, sunshine and distance. In the afternoons I’ll help you put those skills to use and support you to paint your own new piece.

Week 1 - Composition

Getting your composition right to start with is vital. In this session we look at how format, scale, and the placing of elements within a composition can make an incredible difference

Week 2 - Tone

In this session we will explore how tonal balance can help influence the mood of a painting and how it can separate the different planes within it

Week 3 - Distance

Where the land meets the sky is so important – we devote a whole day to exploring techniques that help achieve a sense of distance.

Week 4 - Weather & Light

A day of playing with techniques to capture different types of weather and the effects of light

Week 5 - Water
